Newark Town Council putting finishing touches to Newark on Sea

The finishing touches of Newark on Sea have officially begun ahead of the official launch of the town’s beach tomorrow (Saturday).

Construction on the beach, which forms the opening of the town’s summer activities, has seen mini diggers emptying the sand onto the pit and smoothing it over by the markets team, before being covered with waterproof sheeting to avoid the sand becoming waterlogged by any downpours.

The proceedings were watched over by Town Mayor Barbara Corrigan, who said it was “all systems go” for the grand launch of the beach tomorrow:

“I’m very excited to be here, it’s such a popular event and gets more popular every year,” she said, “We love being able to provide a beach experience for kids in Newark.

“We’ve just had the last deliveries of sand and we can’t wait to see it all come together.”

The deck chairs, buckets and spades will be the finishing touches before the beach opens tomorrow at 10am.

The Mayor also paid tribute to the hardworking Newark Cemetery team who helped out with the installation of the beach.
