Rescue hens from Yasmine McClory Foundation, based in Sutton-on-Trent, lay £250 worth of eggs for Bassetlaw Food Bank
Hundreds of pounds worth of eggs have been laid by a flock of feathered helpers at a Sutton on Trent CIC.
The Yasmine McClory Foundation, set up in memory of Yasmine following her death in February 2024 from a pulmonary embolism, was established to support causes that Yasmine herself was passionate about — one of which was food poverty.
As a result, the foundation, run by her parents and siblings, has been embarking on a fundraising campaign to support local food banks, which saw the launch of their own allotment to provide fresh produce to these initiatives.
Alongside the fruit and vegetables, the foundation keeps a number of chickens at the allotment, which have been rescued from previous homes and nurtured until they are ready to lay again.
The hens now lay eggs to be donated to Bassetlaw Food Bank, and have produced nearly 1,000 eggs — worth £250 in retail value.
Yasmine McClory Foundation spokesman, Yasmine’s sister Jess, said: “We put lots of work into looking after our chickens to make sure they are happy and healthy.
“Everyday we feed them and provide fresh water for them to drink, we clean them out regularly, and pay special attention to how they look and behave to ensure they are well.”
