Newark Advertiser reader letters: Why now for campaign?

Regarding the article MP Robert Jenrick Launches Campaign To Reinstate The 24/7 Urgent Treatment Centre in Newark (Advertiser, July 18).

The article reported that during the recent election campaign Robert Jenrick realised that the permanent loss of our overnight Urgent Care Centre was an important issue to people of Newark, and now he is launching a campaign.

Why has he only realised this now?

He was our MP last year when several campaigns were launched and they were well reported in the Advertiser.

There was a petition that got over a thousand signatures and a march through Newark organised by Independants for Newark.

Newark Labour Party demanded a full consultation which would have looked at the risks of permanently losing the night-time service.

I am sure he must have also received lots of letters from worried constituents.

Back then, when the Conservatives were actually in government, he could have helped directly — but he was silent.

Now, he is making political capital out of launching his own campaign.

Too little, too late!

Why is he playing politics with a vital health service that Newark desperately needs? — Gina Adams, Southwell.
