Coddington WI begins preparations on knitted hat Christmas tree at monthly meeting

A WI has begun preparing their Christmas tree, with a charitable touch.

At the October meeting of Coddington WI, president Gill Southgate explained the Fleet Group of local WI groups was now reduced to two —Winthorpe and Coddington — because of closures in the pandemic.

Gill hoped that the Fleet Group could be maintained, and neighbouring WIs would be able to reopen.

Green woollen knitted hats are being produced and will form the basis of the Coddington WI’s Christmas tree in Newark Parish Church.

The hats will then go to children to help keep them warm during the winter months.

Members were entertained by Clive Rudd who led them through the hits of the 1950s, 60s and 70s and soon had members laughing and singing along.

Meetings are held on the second Tuesday of every month at 2pm at Coddington Village Hall.

People can along as a visitor to see if they like what is on offer.
