Balderton Cricket Club are beaten by Thoresby Colliery in the Nottinghamshire Premier League

Balderton lost further ground in the race for survival in Division Two of the Nottinghamshire Premier League after defeat to relegation rivals Thoresby Colliery on Saturday.

They lost by 123 runs and now find themselves 25 points adrift of safety with just five matches of the season remaining.

Balderton had gone into the crunch clash buoyed by their victory last weekend, however, they struggled to make an impression on a strong Thoresby top order after asking the visitors to bat.

They closed their 46 overs on 272-8 with Kieran Walker and John Skinner both hitting half-centuries for the visitors.

Ryan Charlesworth and Chale Neshaharan both claimed three wickets each for Balderton who then struggled in their reply.

A half-century from Shalith Fernando and Steven Ryder's 38 in a 77-run stand for the second wicket was the highlight of the home innings.

However, they lost their final eight wickets for just 55 runs and were bowled out for 149 as Thoresby moved out of the bottom two following their emphatic win.

The second team were skittled out for 65 as they lost by nine wickets against West Bridgford Legion in Division F of the South Nottinghamshire League.

Phil Gregory (18) and Alan Jackson (14) were the only batters in the eight-player team to make double figures.

West Bridgford Legion then wrapped up the win inside 13 overs with Owen Sear claiming the only home wicket to fall.
