Ten-year-old Newark go-kart racer Harry Wainwright claimed second place overall in the Honda Cadet Championship at the PFI circuit after a busy season.

The Barnby Road Academy pupil was in second place going into the final round of the series at the circuit, the largest in the UK, in Brandon.

His father, Simon Wainwright, said: “It was always going to be tough to catch the driver in first place.

“Harry had an up and down race day with a few incidents hampering his chances of a podium finish.

“He did, however, have a great drive in the final, finishing fifth to cement his second place overall in the championship.

“It has been a great year overall with some highs and lows, but it has been very enjoyable.”

Harry started racing when he was six in the bambino class. He moved up to the Honda Cadet class when he was seven and will race as a junior next season with drivers aged 11-17.
