George Gamble delivered a strong performance at Croft Circuit last weekend to secure two podium finishes in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Championship.

The reigning 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Champion experienced a challenging start to the season. However, following the eight-week summer break at the championship's midpoint, he returned in impressive form.

On Friday, the Rosland Gold Racing by Century Motorsport team fielded their two 510 hp ‘Type 992’ 911 GT3 Cup race cars during both free practice sessions in preparation for the weekend. The second car was driven by Gamble’s team-mate Andrew Rackstraw.

During free practice one, Gamble displayed early promise on Crofts 2.1-mile tarmac, showing strong pace but ultimately securing ninth position. He improved his performance in the second session, recording a faster time and finishing sixth, which also placed him sixth overall across both sessions. Rackstraw concluded the combined practice sessions in eighth place.

During Saturday’s qualifying session, Gamble responded to three lap disqualifications for exceeding track limits by securing fourth place in the 15-lap, 30-minute event. He initially recorded the fastest time of 1:18.232 on lap five among the 16 competitors, with Rackstraw trailing by 0.204 seconds. Gamble further improved his performance on lap 13, achieving an even quicker time of 1:17.909 seconds to claim a well-earned fourth place.

Sunday’s race one, consisting of 17 laps, had Gamble starting from the third row. At the start, Gamble maintained fourth position with team-mate Rackstraw following closely, but Rackstraw was subsequently overtaken by James Walace.

By lap five, Gamble was 3.041 seconds behind the leader and remained in fourth position. Two laps later, a contest for position developed between Gamble and Max Coates ahead. Gamble closely followed Coates, who attempted alternate lines at the Hairpin and onto the pit straight in an effort to create separation, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

By lap eight, Gamble executed an excellent move to advance into third position. He subsequently began closing the gap to Smith in P2 but received a track limit warning. Meanwhile, Smith and pole-sitter Martin extended their lead by lap 13. Gamble maintained his third-place position to secure a podium finish and third in class. Rackstraw finished 10th following an earlier incident involving Wallis.

Gamble started third on the grid for race two, made a strong start to hold P3, then overtook Max Coates midway through lap one to move into second. His job in hand was to close in on Ollie White, who was commanding the race. A committed race between the pair commenced with Gamble was hungry for his first win of the season.

Gamble was defending Coates while White established an early lead by lap five. By lap eight, Gamble had closed the gap and was once again challenging White, and by lap 10 at Jim Clark Esses, the two were side by side, with White momentarily maintaining the advantage. However, Gamble soon overtook to assume control of the race and subsequently extended his lead, ultimately crossing the finish line first. Rackstraw finished sixth.

Gamble said: “It was a great weekend, and I hope it marks the start of a successful second part of the season. I would like to thank the team for their hard work throughout the weekend."

Gamble leaves Croft in fifth place in the driver’s championship with 44 points and Century Motorsport leads the Team Championship with 200 points.

You can watch George Gamble live in the Porsche Carrera Cup Great Britain Championship on ITV4, as rounds 9 and 10 move to Knockhill in Scotland, one of Gamble’s favourite circuits on August 16-17.
