Kettleborough keeps belt
Adam Kettleborough has targeted stepping up to ten rounds after defending his International Masters Bronze lightweight title with a points victory over Ainsley Seivwright.
The Balderton fighter took the win at North Kesteven Leisure Centre 77-76 — and rounded off his victory by reminding old foe Michael Mooney that he is up for a rematch.
Mooney, the only man to beat Kettleborough in professional boxing, was among the spectators watching stablemate Seivwright.
The West Midlands boxer started strongly but Kettleborough’s superior fitness proved decisive.
The 28-year-old said: “It was a tough fight but I think it was a crowd-pleaser.
“I had a look at him in the first two rounds and then began to increase the pace because I knew there was no way he could keep up with me. In round six I went for the stoppage and that took it out of me a little bit, but I thought I had done enough to win the fight.
“Afterwards I told Mooney I was up for a rematch but he didn’t seem to keen. I’m ready to take the step up to ten rounds now.”
There was also a win for debutant Fonz Alexander, who defeated Harjinder Gill, but Edwinstowe’s Jamie Williams suffered his first defeat when the referee stopped his fight because of a cut.
