Two late goals eventually sealed Collingham’s place in the third round of the Central Midlands League’s League Cup in windy conditions at Station Road.

Sid Costa gave Collingham the lead after six minutes when a George Asplin cross found the unmarked striker and he powerfully headed in.

But the home side, fifth in the North Division, struggled to build on their lead against the third-from-bottom visitors.

Collingham saw a penalty saved before securing a place in the fourth round.

Ash Coatworth had a good chance to double the lead ten minutes after Costa’s breakthrough.

A loose pass gifted the Collingham winger the chance to to go through one-on-one with the keeper.

The visitors’ shot-stopper stood up well, however, to deny Coatworth as he looked to double the advantage.

As the conditions worsened, the cup-tie became increasingly scrappy with few chances at either end.

Welbeck battled to get back into the game without threatening Ellis Spencer in the Collingham goal.

The home side eventually doubled their lead in the 72nd minute when Coatworth finished off a Jackson Buckthorp through-ball.

Two minutes later Collingham were awarded a penalty, but Asplin’s spot-kick was well saved by the keeper and the rebound was put over the bar by Coatworth.

The final goal came in the 90th minute when Marlon Grundy found space on the edge of the area and curled the ball into the top left corner.

Last night Collingham were due to travel to Dinnington Town in the Floodlit Cup.

They will return to league action on Saturday with a trip to Doncaster to face Brodsworth Welfare, who are fourth-from-bottom.
