Sir William Robertson Academy pupil Maisie Mullett wins a bronze medal at the English Schools Championships
A young athlete from Balderton has returned with a medal after a magnificent performance at the English Schools Championships.
Maisie Mullett finished in third place to claim a bronze medal in the Junior Girls 1500m race in the event held at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
The 13-year-old was selected to represent Lincolnshire after making the national qualifying standard.
The event was held over two days and is the biggest schools competition across England with 125 teams taking part.
The junior girls heats were held right at the end of the day which resulted in a lot of waiting around for the Sir William Robertson Academy pupil.
There were three races with 14 girls in each heat and the top three from each went through automatically to the final along with the next three fastest.
Maisie came in the top three in heat two and automatically qualified for the final which was a massive achievement in itself.
The final of the race wasn't until Saturday afternoon where Maisie had another wait due to a delayed start time.
She was seeded in lane one which left her boxed in on the inside nearly all race but she held her own and with 250m to go broke away with the top five.
They fought all the way to the finish line where Maisie secured third spot in a time of 4:36:04 for the bronze medal.
