Newark finish at bottom of pile
Newark AC completed their fixtures in the North of England League at Doncaster and finished last on the day and also bottom of the league, resulting in their relegation along with Chesterfield and Barnsley.
Newark’s athletes put up a fight and there were many good performances, but unfortunately the strength of the opposition proved too great.

Tim Bagguley was fifth in the A 3,000m steeplechase (13mins 01.5secs) and seventh in the 1500m (4-59.1).
Doug Kelley took fourth in the A 5,000m (16-54.4) and Grahame Kelley was fifth in the B race 5,000m (20-36.0) while the men contested both relay races, finishing second in the 4x100m (45.6secs) and seventh in the 4x400m (3mins 59.0 secs).
Although this has been a hard year for the club in Division Two, resulting in relegation — mainly down to a shortage of athletes — it has to be said that all those who competed gave it 100%.
Newark are in the unfortunate position of not being able to fill enough events, as the lack of facilities means that the club cannot train athletes for several of the events contested, and overall the club has done well to reach this level, enabling members to compete against much bigger clubs.
CAPTION: Hurdler Neil Bass was in fine form for Newark Athletic Club at their North of England League meeting at Doncaster.
