Newark Alliance Second Division : One point separates four clubs at top of the table
A 1-1 draw between unbeaten joint leaders Robin Hood and Sutton-on-Trent allowed Laxton to take over at the top of an exciting division.
The previous leaders, who have identical records, including goal difference, could not be separated in an even game.
Robin Hood started well, struck the post and had a good chance to take a first-half lead before the visitors hit back.
Sutton started the second-half on top and made the breakthrough when a ball was played down the left.
Ethan Wilson took advantage as the home keeper hesitated to come out and collect the ball. Wilson took it around the keeper and passed the ball into the net.
Robin Hood pressed for an equaliser and hit the woodwork, while Sutton squandered chances to double their lead.
Around ten minutes from time substitute Jacob Lowe headed in a cross to level and in the closing stages the home side dominated, piling on pressure as Sutton defended well to hang on for a point.
Laxton, who have played one game more than Robin Hood and Sutton-on-Trent, defeated visitors RHP Social Reserve s 5-1.
Scott Hennell struck twice and Anthony Davies, Craig Jewitt and Ashley Squance were also on the scoresheet as the home side built on a 3-0 half-time advantage.
Battling ten-man Chesters moved up to fourth, level on points with Robin Hood and Sutton-on-Trent but having played a game more, after a narrow 2-1 home victory over Knowhow United Reserves.
Michael Dilger was sent-off for the home side after just half-an-hour, but Chesters continued to dominate.
They fell behind in the second period, however, to a Aaron Heal header before staging a fine recovery.
Ten minutes later Connor Walsh converted a penalty after a foul on Kieran Davies and two minutes from time substitute Fraser Hallam headed the winner from a free-kick.
Second-from-bottom Bleasby are still looking for their first win after a 4-2 home defeat to Grove 16 Reserves.
Oliver Gee struck twice and Tommy Dowd and Matthew Buck completed the scoring for the winners.
Matthew Hind and James Menhennet were on target in either half for Bleasby.
