However, during the meal, he passed out and banged his head on the table.

Unconscious and convulsing, the quick actions of concerned bystanders managed to bring him round.

His quick-thinking teammates then decided to drive him to the hospital instead of waiting for an ambulance.

“It was so amazing to see the teams pull together to help Nathan,” said match official Brett Hovey.

“Witnessing people step up and help truly enhances how special and solid the football family can be,” he said.

Newark team-mates, match officials, including Hovey, volunteers from the Clipstone club, the Clipstone physio, and Newark Town staff including stalwart Tony Joynes all came to Burrows' aid.

Burrows was taken to the hospital for a CT scan with the results giving him the all-clear.

The goalkeeper is a cornerstone of the tight-knit team and is a well-liked member of the club.

Burrows will now have to spend some time on the sidelines but is keen to get back into the nets soon.

The goalkeeper was in good spirits and said he was looking forward to a bit of time off before making his comeback.

“Unfortunately we had an incident at Clipstone and the main thing is that Nathan has now had the right tests and he’s been given the all clear,” said Newark Town manager, Luke Parsons.

“He has to take it easy for a few days but he’s okay.

“You don’t expect anything like that to happen to one of your players and we are just so thankful for the assistant linesman who got to him first, the Clipstone staff and volunteers as well as our staff who all were immense in the situation.”

Newark Town thanked Clipstone, the officials, and everyone who helped or sent well wishes.

Many other teams wished the keeper a speedy recovery including Newark Town Ladies, Southwell, Newark and Sherwood United, and Kirton.
