Newark Alliance First Division : Second-half goals prove crucial

Collingham went top of the table with a 3-1 win at last week’s cup kings, Witham Wanderers.

Witham, bottom of the table, shocked Premier Division Newark Flowserve 2-1 in the Willie Hall Trophy the previous week.

But there was no repeat of that upset in the league, despite a Barry Parker goal that made it 1-1 at half-time.

Matthew Evans, George Hogg and Jack Town hit the goals that took Collingham to the summit, although they have played more matches than the three teams immediately below them.

A back-header by Joe Powell earned mid-table Newark Flowserve Reserves their first draw of the season.

Powell nodded in 12 minutes from time to deny visitors Walesby the victory that would have taken them joint top.

In an even game played in a good spirit without a malicious tackle, both keepers made good saves.

Richard Willatt had given Walesby the lead after half-time, but a draw was probably a fair result.
