Annual Silverstone Classic weekend sees Shaun Balfe race his Lotus Cortina and Lotus Elan
Shaun Balfe took a break from his McLaren British GT campaign to race his Lotus Cortina and Lotus Elan at the annual Silverstone Classic weekend.
After qualifying on Friday, the Fulbeck racer was joined by son Tom for the Historic Touring Car Challenge in their Cortina.
Shaun was out first with the race re-started under caution due to heavy rain, lying third in class and chasing Jonathan Mitchell’s similar car. Son Tom took over for the second half but had one real racing lap, with the rest behind the safety car until the race was prematurely halted.
The Balfe duo were classified 30th overall and second in class.
“Thomas kept it circulating and was delighted with the result,” said Shaun.
Their final race of the weekend was the Pre 66 GT International Trophy, with Shaun and Tom Ashton sharing the Elan, finishing 14th and third in class.
“We had prepared for the weekend with a shakedown at Donington, but still felt under-prepared compared to the regular historic drivers. We ended up with a half-decent weekend though,” Shaun concluded.
