Steven Venables resigns as Newark Town manager
Newark Town manager Steven Venables has resigned.
He joined the club 43 days ago from Newark Flowserve following the resignation of Tony Joynes.
"I'm not the right fit for Newark Town at the moment and it isn't right for me," he said.
The departure of his backroom staff had also caused him problems before the start of the season.
His assistant manager Matt Wade rejoined Newark Flowserve as manager while coaches Oli Tatterson and Richard Mills dropped out due to travel commitments.
"I spoke to a number of candidates for the assistant's role, but there was no-one who would have fitted well as assistant," he said.
"This left me with the option of hiring someone for the sake of it or going it alone, neither of which I wanted to do."
Chairman Dave Roberts said he was shocked by the decision.
"It was a bolt from the blue. I am disappointed because I had high hopes for Steven," said Mr Roberts.
"We have to move quickly to appoint a new manager. I'm already speaking to people and I hope we can have someone appointed by next week.
"This is an excellent club with every chance of promotion. There are currently 27 players signed on and a strong group from behind the scenes. We want someone who can fit with our vision."
Newark Town have cancelled their first practice match away at Teversal Reserves on Saturday.
