An acclaimed production of The Kite Runner is returning to Nottingham Playhouse after a successful run in London’s West End.

It is at the venue from a week today until Saturday, September 9, ahead of a UK tour.

Based on Khaled Hosseini’s international bestselling novel, it is a haunting tale of friendship that spans cultures and continents, following one man’s journey to confront his past and find redemption.

Afghanistan is a divided country on the verge of war and two childhood friends are about to be torn apart.

It’s a beautiful afternoon in Kabul and the skies are full of the excitement and joy of a kite-flying tournament, but neither Hassan nor Amir can foresee the terrible incident that will shatter their lives forever.

The Kite Runner was originally a co-production between Nottingham Playhouse and the Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse, directed by Nottingham Playhouse’s artistic director, Giles Croft.

After a run in Nottingham, it played in Wyndham’s and Playhouse theatres in London’s West End.

Giles Croft said: “When we first produced The Kite Runner in 2013 we couldn’t have imagined that it would go on to have such a long life.

“I am delighted that the production will be returning to Nottingham Playhouse after two successful seasons in the West End, before touring the UK for a second time.”
