Cheshire Cats performed by Argent Theatre at Robin Hood Theatre, Averham
The true story of friends in training for a charity fundraiser forms the basis of a feelgood play being performed by Argent Theatre next week.
Cheshire Cats, by Gail Young, is performed at the Robin Hood Theatre, Averham, from Wednesday to Saturday (March 8-11).
It follows the story of a group friends as they train for the London Moon Walk.
A relative newcomer to the Argent company, Sharron Cawthorne, takes on the role of team organiser Hilary, alongside sidekick Siobhan (Janina Sulek).
These ‘cats’ are joined by Maggie (Laura Talbot) and Yvonne (Dawn Stubbs).
They are supported by Barry Hughes and Argent newcomers Rich Gascoyne and Robert Cobb as Moon Walk marshals, while Newark actor Richard Fry makes a welcome return to the stage as Andrew, the toy boy love interest of ‘cougar’ Vicki (Chantelle Thornley).
Completing the acting ensemble are Yvonne Cockayne and Mary Timms as Madge and Ethel, two stalwarts of the Moon Walking supporters community who turn out every year to cheer on the walkers.
Director John Dodd said: “Very much like Calendar Girls, which I directed over ten years ago, this play is about the human spirit and will be enjoyed by all ages and sexes. We’ve got funky music, back projection of London scenes and a few surprises.”
Tickets are available from www.ticketsource.co.uk/robinhood
Performances take place at 7.30pm, Wednesday to Friday, and 2.30pm on Saturday.
