Flamenco sounds

The arrival of international flamenco jazz guitarist and composer, Eduardo Niebla, prompts a change of format to previous Village Ventures’ concerts at South Clifton Coronation Hall.

Two other events there have featured cabaret-style seating with tables and chairs.

But with demand for tickets likely to lead to a sell-out concert on February 8, organiser Paula Noble has switched to theatre-style seating this time.

Eduardo performs all his own compositions, a high-octane fusion of flamenco and jazz, passionate and poignant in turn, as seen on BBC2’s Culture Show.

He will also play at St Helen’s Church, Stapleford, on February 7 and Harmston Memorial Hall on February 24.

The concerts are part of a national tour of mainly rural venues bringing together musicians who have worked with Eduardo for many years, including guitarists Carl Herring and Matthew Robinson.

“Last year he was in concert at the Queen Elizabeth Hall in London’s South Bank Centre, and now he’s coming to South Clifton,” said Paula.

“We are very lucky to have him, and with the tickets being so affordable we expect a strong demand.

“We will be opening the bar for this concert rather than asking people to bring their own drinks.”

Tickets costs £8 and are available from Paula on 01522 778587.
