He said: “I’m looking forward to everything, especially because everyone is going to be so happy being back at work and that doesn’t just include us on stage, its everyone from the lighting guys to the sound guys who work in the venues.

“The atmosphere is going to be, excuse the pun, electrifying.”

Dan Partridge will be reprising the role of Danny, having played him on the UK and Ireland tour in 2019, and Georgia Louise will play Sandy.

Paul French is Kenickie and Tendai Rinomhota is Rizzo.

The story of high school romance, friendship and fall-outs includes the hit songs Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted To You and You’re The One That I Want

The tour of the first new production of the musical in 25 years had to be postponed last year because of covid.

Peter said: “I want to make up for lost time and make sure that every single show is going to be immense fun.

“Nottingham has such up-for-it audiences as I recall, and it’s a lovely theatre.

“Usually on a tour it’s like you’re in and out and I’ve never really had a chance to explore Nottingham properly, but I intend to change that this time.”

While best known for the 1978 film starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton John, Grease started life on Broadway.

Among its stars were the then little-known Peter Gallagher, Patrick Swayze and John Travolta, with Richard Gere understudying many roles before going on to star as Danny Zuko in the 1973 London premiere.

Peter said: “What’s interesting about the theatre version is that it’s the original script, not the one we know from the movie.

“It’s still the same songs and still pretty much the same dialogue, but some of the songs are in different places and in the original script Sandy is dark-haired and from America, not blonde and from Australia.”

You can expect to see Peter rocking out to Grease and Beauty School Drop out along with the rest of the cast as there is only one song he’s missing for.

Peter said: “With Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel it’s a very quick change but I love the energy of that.

“There’s just one song which I’m not in, during which I have time to get out of one outfit and into a completely different one, with the wig and everything.”

Grease is directed by Nikolai Foster and choreographed by Arlene Phillips.
