Young actors to star in The Trials at Nottingham Playhouse
A gripping production of Dawn King’s The Trials is set for the stage — starring young actors from the county.
Imagine a world where the air is unbreathable, your choices from years ago are now criminal acts, and where teenagers hold your fate in their hands.
This is the world brought to life in The Trials, which is a ‘disturbingly relevant’ play about the consequences of climate change which gives a voice to the young people who live with the choices of previous generations.
Three adults are on trial for exceeding ‘reasonable individual fossil fuel emission limits'
The Jury consists of 12 teenagers who are living with the consequences. But are they seeking justice — or revenge?
Dawn King’s play premiered in the UK at the Donmar Warehouse in 2022 — and in the Playhouse’s co-production with Mansfield Palace Theatre, young actors from Nottingham and Mansfield will perform alongside professional actors.
The cast are Jamie Adlam, Noah Baguley, Nevaya Davidson, Abi Dring, Luca Gale-Hall, Joseph Grainge, Thomas Pears, Jessica Pywell, Finley Ramowski, Chloe Revill, Marley Simpson and Bernice Thomas.
The professional actors include Mark Jardine (Bare — A Pop Opera, The Vaults; Coronation Street) and Rebecca Crankshaw (The Island; Coronation Street).
It will be co-directed by Omar Khan and Hannah Stone, a former Nottingham Playhouse Associate Artist, who both began their careers as Youth Theatre Tutors at Mansfield Palace Theatre.
The Trials runs for just four performances at the Playhouse from August 14, before moving to Mansfield Palace Theatre for one final performance.
