Show sends temperature rising

A packed audience turned out for the return visit of The ELO Experience at the Palace Theatre, Newark, on Friday night, despite the snow.

The seven-piece group — three guitarists, a keyboardist, drummer and two cellists — donned a variety of styles from the 1970s as they accurately performed the music of Jeff Lynne and The Electric Light Orchestra.

Lead singer Andy Louis not only looked like Jeff but sounded very much like him too, and he had a natural rapport with the audience.

The use of graphics at the back of the stage added a new dimension, especially for The Diary Of Horace Wimp and Xanadu.

The show started with the lively, All Over The World, followed by Evil and the delightful Telephone Line.

Andy got everyone clapping in time for You Shine A Light On My Life and singing to Confusion and Living Thing.

We soon warmed up in the second half after buying blue glow sticks and waving them in all the songs. Highlights included Rain, Sweet Talking Woman, Turned To Stone, One Of Those Nights with references to Newark, Rock N Roll Is King Hold On Tight to Your Dreams and Don’t Bring Me Down.

After shouts for more the group performed Mr Blue Sky, and received a standing ovation. A great night with a fantastic light show, video footage and brilliant music. Come back soon — DAB.
