Mersey Beatles and The Wonder Of Steve tribute to Stevie Wonder opens new season at Newark’s Palace Theatre




The autumn season gets under way at Newark’s Palace Theatre next week with tribute to two legendary musical acts.

First up is The Mersey Beatles who will take the audience back to the heyday of the Fab Four a week today (September 21).

The Liverpool-born tribute has have been rocking sold-out shows around the globe since 1999 with their authentic celebration of John, Paul, George and Ringo.

The band clocked up more than 600 appearances in a ten-year residency at Liverpool’s legendary Cavern Club, which also hosted famously hosted The Beatles.

From the costumes, instruments, cheeky Scouse wit and, of course, that brilliant era-defining Mersey sound, The Mersey Beatles give a live stage show that isa hit-packed celebration of the music that changed the world.

Over two hours, they take the audience on a ride through the ‘mop top’ hits of Beatlemania, the psychedelic creativity of Sergeant Pepper to the melodic wonder and energy of the Fab Four’s later work.

There is another tribute show at the Palace the following day (September 22) with The Wonder Of Stevie – the ultimate celebration of the genius of Stevie Wonder.

It is fronted by acclaimed vocalist Noel McCalla, supported by award-winning saxophonist Derek Nash, from the Jools Holland’s R&B Orchestra, and their live band.

They will present a diverse catalogue of back-to-back Stevie Wonder hits, including Superstition, Signed, Sealed, Delivered, Isn’t She Lovely, I Wish, Sir Duke, Master Blaster and many more.

The Wonder of Stevie’s nine-piece band features musicians who have previously performed with a wide variety of music legends including Bill Withers, Amy Winehouse, The Bee Gees, Eric Clapton, David Gilmour, Martha Reeves, Jamiroquai, Booker T. Jones, Sam Moore, Eddie Floyd, Gregory Porter and Alfie Boe.
