Newark Amateur Boxing Club grows as the charity double the size of their trustees
An organisation continues to go from strength to strength just months after achieving charity status.
The Newark Amateur Boxing Club has now doubled the amount of its trustees from three to six.
Founded by Head Coach Dean Sugden of Suggys Gym in 2002, last year the club achieved charity status through the support of its Chair Nicki Peters-Bayford offering expert advice and guidance.
Following on from this they were then joined by the Head of Parents and Supporters contingent of the club, Paul Jordan.
Now three new trustees — Dieter Gent, Dave Thompson and Keith Girling — have come on board to help support local young boxers in Newark.

“The new trustees come with a variety of knowledge, skills and backgrounds making Newark Amateur Boxing Club a well rounded and well supported charity,” said a spokesman from the club.
“Over the recent years the club has developed, gaining in popularity amongst the young people of Newark due to the passion, commitment, skills and experience of the coaches.
“Additionally, the exciting recent appointment of GB development coach to Dean Sugden has highlighted why NABC is the most innovative club in the local area.
“All members will benefit from the exposure Dean will have access to due to his talent and success.
“Boxing is a popular sport for many young people in the local area and being able to give them something that keeps them fit, instills discipline and respect and gives them something to do in the evenings is crucial to helping support both the local community and the local youngsters.
“Newark Amateur Boxing Club currently has on average 250 young people turning up to train multiple times a week with classes often running at maximum capacity — pushing the gym to its limits.
“The gym is always full of eager, keen and motivated youngsters all hoping to take their skills and enthusiasm into the ring.
“In order to continue to move forward, Newark ABC’s trustees, both new and old, will need to explore the opportunities for bigger premises for the club.
“A task which would be a huge undertaking for the committee but one that would benefit so many and could have a profound impact on the town.
“Larger premises would allow Dean and his team of coaches to offer more local talent the opportunity to take up boxing and all of the East Midlands Squad training would be able to be moved from Leicester to Newark.
“This would then provide further inspiration for our Newark athletes as well as an increase in the footfall of boxers, coaches, parents and supports from other areas of the region — something that would no doubt benefit Newark’s shops and Cafes.
“With so much to look forward and the wealth of knowledge and experience the new trustees bring, NABC is looking forward to a brighter and bigger future.”
