Designs progressing for a proposed £20m Bingham leisure hub to promote healthier lifestyles
Designs for a potential new £20m leisure, community and office hub are progressing, and could promote healthier lifestyles and complement the growth of the town.
Specialist consultants have continued to work with Rushcliffe Borough Council to produce plans for the new facility after options were explored to develop the site in line with town's masterplan.
The mix of commercial and leisure development is consistent with the Bingham Growth Board’s aspirations to develop the site as part of a key gateway between the current town centre and the growth of housing developments in the north of town.
In February the district council’s Cabinet approved recommendations to draw up plans for the facility that could create up to 90 jobs as part of wider plans for the town.
They include a new swimming pool, fitness gym, exercise and spin studios, café and serviced offices on land owned by the authority on Chapel Lane in the town, north of the town’s railway line.
Bingham Town Council have also been consulted on the requirements for a community hall within the main leisure centre building.
Final detailed designs will lead to an application for planning permission later this year and could see a new centre open in December 2021.
Rushcliffe Borough Council’s deputy leader and chair of the Bingham Growth Board, Debbie Mason said: “The quality of leisure provision available for residents in Bingham and the surrounding area should the centre come to fruition will be significantly improved.
“The leisure community and office hub location are important as the town grows and once we have checked the final designs are viable in line with our capital programme fund, planning applications could be submitted this December.”
Discussions continue with the Nova Education Trust and other stakeholders to enable continued access to outdoor and Sports Hall facilities at the current Toot Hill School site.
