Balderton man one of two people accused of assaulting police officers

A Balderton man is one of two people are due in court after police officers were assaulted during separate incidents.

It was alleged an officer was placed in a headlock and kicked in the stomach after attending a disturbance in Wosley Street, Worksop, at around 2.50am on Christmas Day.

Jason Dawson, aged 50, of Bridge Court, Balderton, has since been charged with assaulting an emergency worker in relation to the incident.

He has been released on bail and is due to appear at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court on January 26, 2022.

Officers were also called to a report of another disturbance in Melbourne Road, Aspley, shortly after 8.30pm on Christmas Eve.

It is alleged a woman spat in a police officer’s eye after being taken into custody for drunk and disorderly behaviour.

Lisa Fletcher, aged 33, of Gregory Boulevard, Nottingham, has since been charged with being drunk and disorderly in a public place, common assault of an emergency worker and possession of a class A drug.

She has been released on bail and is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on January 21, 2022.

Chief Inspector Chris Sullivan, from Nottinghamshire Police, said: “It is completely unacceptable to assault a person who is simply going out to do their job and do their best to serve the community.

“Police officers put their lives on the line daily to protect the public and assaults should never be accepted as part of the job.

“We will simply not tolerate this kind of appalling behaviour in any shape or form and as we have repeatedly shown we will take a robust approach whenever such behaviour is reported to us.

“Thankfully the officers weren’t seriously injured but their welfare is being looked after by the force.”
