Keen motorcyclists tie knot in Newark after bride recovers from crash

Keen motorcyclists wed in Newark on Monday with the groom in leathers and the bride with her riding boots under her dress.

Bride Diane Piggott was only able to tie the knot after recovering sufficiently from a motorcycle crash that left her hospitalised and battered and bruised.

Diane Piggott tied the knot with Ian Russell at The Salvin Suite of the Gilstrap Register Office.

Diane and Ian both have their own superbikes, which were parked up in the castle grounds for photographs under the bandstand, and many of their wedding guests were in their leathers too.

Diane was knocked off her superbike the week before the wedding, sustaining back, rib and leg injuries. She was treated by the team at King’s Mill Hospital, who Ian described as superb, and is now recovering at home.

However, not to be put off, with a few tweaks here and there Diane arrived in the morning sunshine with her husband-to-be, but as a pillion passenger.

Newark and Sherwood District Council gave special permission for a small number of bikes to be in the castle grounds for wedding day photos.

After the service, Ian and Diane were joined by some of their biker friends for a ride out around Newark and some of the county’s roads on their way to their reception.
