A Newark fish and chip shop has collected dozens of bras as part of an event to support Breast Cancer Care.

Mr Austin Ryan, of The Jolly Fryer, held a fundraising day at the Eton Avenue shop to raise money for the cancer fund and Beaumond House Community Hospice, Newark.

Mr Ryan and Mr Nigel Tucker, who owns neighbouring shop The Local, held stalls and a tombola. Mr Ryan also dyed his hair pink.

He said: “We try to do things for charity, but it is more down to everyone in the community who gets involved.

“All I do is arrange the events and they come along and spend their money.

“I dyed my hair for a laugh, especially for the kids.

“It grabs their attention and they will remember it.

“They will be more aware of breast cancer when they are older.”

Mr Ryan said the bras were donated by customers and were displayed in the shop to raise awareness of breast cancer before being donated to charity.

The event raised around £500 for the charities.
