Prison break fundraisers prepare for next event
The organisers of fundraising in support of four children’s charities in Newark are looking for people to support their latest event — an It’s A Knockout and fun day.
Newark and Sherwood Children’s Charities Group was set up last year with the aim of organising four major events annually for Counselling and Support for Young People (CASY), Think Children, Home-Start Newark, and the Newark and Notts Child Bereavement and Loss Centre, better known as Sue’s Place.
The first event was a prison break from the cells in the old Newark Police Station, which raised about £8,000.
It is hoped the next event — an It’s A Knockout and fun day at Newark Showground on May 18 — will be just as successful.
They are looking for teams of six to 12 people to take part and are asking them to raise a minimum of £600 in sponsorship.
The group chairman, Amanda Brett, said they were also hoping to have about 20 stall-holders selling child-friendly items such as toys, crafts or cakes or offering activities such as facepainting and plate-decorating.
Stall-holders would need to provide their own tables and would have to pay a small charge.
